Blog’s First Award!

Liebster AwardThis Plus Size Mummy (ttc) is now an award winning blogger 😀 Thank you very much to Someplace Strange for the nomination!

The Liebster Award was created to recognize and discover new bloggers and welcome them to the blogosphere. It is awarded by bloggers to bloggers with a following of less than 200. This award exists to help each other and provide exposure and promotion. Hey, every little blog has to start somewhere! Please let me know if you would like to be nominated for this award. (The rules are listed at the end of this post)

So here are eleven things about me and reasons why this blog deserves this award:

  1. I started Plus Size Mummy because I couldn’t find much info about trying to conceive as a plus size person. I trawled the internet for info about conception and pregnancy and I noticed an overwhelming lack of info for the plus size mum (to be) and even fewer proud photos of plus size mums. I wanted to create a positive blog of my thoughts and experiences from TTC (trying to conceive) through to, hopefully!, pregnancy and birth and beyond!
  2. Children have always been my passion. I have a Masters Degree in Psychology and I am currently writing up my PhD in Childhood Values Development. I am also a teacher and my favourite level is Key Stage 1, but I have taught right the way through to high school and university level. Hopefully I can share some developmental and educational insights and experience through this blog.
  3. Even though I had a very successful career as an educator and researcher, I have always believed that my true purpose in life is to be a mum. I hope that writing about my experience is useful to other mums-to-be.
  4. I do believe that one can be a (non-raging) feminist and a full time mum and I plan to show this over time on the blog. I chose to start a family and I chose to make my family my priority.
  5. It is possible to be healthy and a size 22. And it is perfectly healthy to want a baby at size 22. I spent so much of my life dissatisfied with my body. It was reading body positive bloggers that helped me realise I am perfectly fine. So many years of dieting and binging in an effort to be thin and for what? Nothing good. I am so much happier now and I am also so much healthier because I stopped dieting. I want other curvy babes to know it is possible to conceive and be a great mum, regardless of your size or weight.
  6. I was born and spent my early years in Zimbabwe, to a Scottish Dad and a German descent mum. With my younger sister and brother, I was raised in South Africa. I continued my teaching career in Malawi. Then I met a man and fell in love and moved to Bournemouth, England, where we currently live with our furbaby, Harley. This all taught me that the world is so much bigger than just a hometown!
  7. Travel is in my blood and I think it’s so important that my babies have the wanderlust spirit. I’m looking forward to writing about travel as a pregnant mum to be, as well as travelling with kiddos.
  8. I am a typical Type A personality (in pop psych terms) – self-critical, impatient, highly organised and goal-driven and it would be great to connect with other Type A mums and TTC-mums through this blog.
  9. Writing is something that I have always enjoyed. It is hugely cathartic and therapeutic. Couple that with my enthusiasm for photography and you have Plus Size Mummy blog 🙂
  10. The Mummy Network is vast – 2 billion mums and TTC-mums in the world. We should support and empathise with each other, help each other, share insights and findings and experience with each other. They say it takes a village to raise to child…
  11. Finally, this blog is an invitation to be kind to one another, regardless of size or baby status.

So in my next post, I will answer Someplace Strange‘s questions that she set for me. Please let me know if you would like to be nominated for this award! The Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog.
  • Share 11 facts about yourself.
  • Answer the 10 questions given by the nominator.
  • Nominate and link with up to 10 bloggers (with less than 200 followers).
  • Notify all the bloggers you’ve nominated.
  • Create 10 new questions for your nominees to answer and write your own post about it.
